First stop this morning was Cape Le Grande National Park.
Notable for its granite rock formations and pristine white sand beaches.
The first stop was Thistle Cove.
Further into the park, the roads became corrugated dirt.
But it was worthwhile to get to Lucky Bay.
I took Suzi for a run along the beach. Managed to only drop her once in the soft sand, although there were a few other close calls. Need better tyres for that!
Then I decided to climb Frenchman’s Peak, the dominant hill in the area, which was supposed to have a commanding view of the entire area.
It was a more challenging climb than I expected, very steep in places!
The view from the summit was well worth the effort though.
Last stop was Hellfire Bay, a lovely sheltered cove with clear turquoise water rolling onto the white sand.
Heading back to Esperance, I decided to stop at something I’d seen on the way into town the previous day. It seems someone has taken it upon themselves to build a full-scale perfect replica of Stonehenge, on a random property just out of town.
Before leaving Esperance, I had one last thing to do – check out the Grand Ocean Drive. Not quite as spectacular (or as long!) as the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, but a beautiful coastline nevertheless.
Then it was an uneventful run west as far as Houptown, where I’m camped just inside the Fitzgerald River National Park, ready for another day’s exploring tomorrow. This was the perfect way to end the day.
