A poor nights sleep (the result of country bogans using the campground to party on once the pub had closed) turned into a beautiful day as I headed back in to Adelaide. It was time to explore what made the hinterland so renowned for motorcycling.
Chasing my shadow early in the morning.
First up, breakfast and a bit of a wander through Hahndorf.
Then to the top of Mt Lofty, overlooking the Adelaide basin.
Then I hit the road, criss crossing the hills several times.
I ended up at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood, with some interesting displays.
Old bikes:
New bikes (Dakar spec).
The original round-the-world bike (based on a BMW).
London to Sydney moke.
Goggomobil Dart and Lightburn Zeta, two adorably crap fibreglass Aussie cars.
One of the original Leyland Brothers landies.
And plenty more – but time was running short and I had lunch plans, so it was back on those glorious roads.
Then into Lobethal to the Bierhaus for a late lunch – a tasting paddle of boutique beers, and chicken wings.
And finally back into Adelaide for the night. I decided to go for a wander around dusk and check out Hindley and Rundle Sts, where the action is – not that there’s much on a Sunday night! Interesting street art though.
