The Path Less Ridden

Day 0 – Trans-Australia

Well, it has been far too long since I’ve updated this page – sadly, life gets in the way often! Around buying and renovating a new flat, Christmas, work, and university, I’ve managed to prepare for the first big adventure. So, tomorrow morning I set off on a 6 week, 12000 kilometer journey across Australia.

The rough plan so far is to depart Sydney heading south, down through Cooma and over the Snowy Mountains, across Victoria taking in Gippsland, Port Phillip Bay and the Great Ocean Road, then through Mount Gambier in SA up to Adelaide. I’ll catch up with a mate there, exploring the hills and wineries, before crossing the Nullabor Plains into Western Australia. A loop around the south-western corner including Esperance and Albany, then up to Perth to stay with family for a day or two. A quick service and change of tyres on the bike, then out to Kalgoorlie and Laverton, before taking the Great Central Road to Uluru. Depending on time, I’d like to also do a loop around to Alice Springs taking in King’s Canyon and the McDonnell Ranges. Once in Alice, I’ll meet up with my parents in their fully-kitted camper 4×4, before tackling the real challenge – crossing the Simpson Desert. Once in Birdsville it’ll be a pretty straightforward run southeast towards Sydney.

Of course, that’s just the plan, and part of adventure is either not following or not being able to follow the plan, so we’ll see what happens along the way!
